Cavers Win-Cavemen Play Tonight
The Lady Cavers are advancing to the second round of the Girls 6A State Playoffs after beating Barlow 55 to 41 at Heater-Newman last night. Grants Pass will play at Number 7 Southridge on Friday. Southridge handed Lake Oswego a 67 to 37 loss last night. The time of the game is yet to be determined.

The Cavemen play tonight in the same gym the Cavers are headed to Friday when they take on the Southridge Skyhawks. The Skyhawks are seeded fifth and have only lost three games to Oregon Teams, two to Westview and one to Jesuit, all three in the same conference. The Caveman game will be broadcast on KAJO with the pre game airing at 5:40 prior to the 6 p.m. tipoff.

Cavemen Win, Cavers Lose, both Headed to the Playoffs
The Grants Pass Cavemen likely assured themselves a playoff berth by defeating Willamette Tuesday night 60 to 42. The win leaves the Cavemen with a 7 and 5 conference record, winning 6 of their last 7 games, enough to place 3rd in conference securing a playoff game. The Cavemen are 11 and 13 overall and ranked 28th in the state by the OSAA. According to the OSAA’s website this morning the boys rankings close Saturday night at 10. Then we’ll know where and when the Cavemen play.

Peyton Bruner again paced the Caveman scoring last night ripping the nets for another 23 points and was again supported by Jordan Rossetta’s 15.

The Lady Cavers lost at Willamette 56 to 36, but maintained their top 10 statewide ranking after the loss to the number three Wolverines. The OSAA girls rankings freeze Friday night at 10. The Cavers are headed to the 6A state playoffs with a 16 and 7 overall record. The Lady Cavers are expected to host their first-round game Tuesday, March 4th.

In other Southwest Conference action Sheldon boys beat North Medford 60 to 59, and South Eugene beat Roseburg 69 to 59. On the girls side it was North Medford beating Sheldon 56 to 42 and Roseburg over South Eugene 53 to 31.

GPHS ;BBall Idle, but Significant Action in the SWC, Hidden Valley Hosts Mazama
With the Grants Pass boys and girls basketball teams idle tonight there is plenty of action in the Southwest Conference that will have a bearing on the boy’s standings. South Eugene is at South Medford, Sheldon is at Roseburg and North Medford is at Willamette. For the girls South Medford is at South Eugene and Roseburg is at Sheldon. The Willamette girls are hosting North Medford in the feature game.

Cavemen Win at North, Cavers Lose
The Grants Pass Cavemen took another step to securing a playoff berth Wednesday night handing the North Medford Black Tornado a 57 to 50 loss. The Cavemen have won five of their last six games. Jordan Rosetta paced the Grants Pass Scoring with 19 points and Peyton Bruner added 16 with Zach DeChenne tossing in 12 more. The win puts the Cavemen into 3rd place in conference, A playoff position and 30th statewide, also a playoff position. The Cavemen have one more regular season game, February 25th at Willamette. Other conference teams have up to three more games that could affect the rankings which don’t freeze until March 1st.

The Lady Cavers lost at North Medford 45 to 33. Grants Pass is now 16 and 6 overall and 7 and 4 in conference play. The Cavers are ranked 10th in the state and are slated to host a playoff game on March 4th in Heater-Newman gym.

GP Names New Football Coach, GP BBall Teams at North Medford Tonight & Tuesday's Scores
Grants Pass High School has named a new Head Football Coach. Matt Kennedy has been tabbed as the new leader of the Caveman Football Program. Kennedy is a teacher at Grants Pass and was the head freshmen coach last year. He will take over the Grants Pass football program that finished in sixth place in the 6A Special District 1 with a 6 and 5 overall record in 2024.

Grants Pass Basketball teams travel to Medford to play the Black Tornado at the Oakdale Middle School gym adjacent to Spiegelberg Stadium. The Cavemen look to keep their playoff hopes alive with a win. They tip at 6:00 p.m . the Cavers, already slated to host a playoff game on March 4th tip off at 7:30.

In action last night in the Southwest Conference the South Medford boys handed Roseburg an 85 to 55 loss while the Lady Panthers also won 70 to 12 over the Indians.

Cavemen Beat S. Medford, Cavers lose to Panthers & More Tuesday Night BBall Action
The high school basketball playoffs are looming and the Grants Pass Cavemen took another step toward making the playoffs Tuesday night defeating the South Medford Panthers 62 to 54 moving into 3rd place in conference. It was the 4th win in a row for Grants Pass that followed a losing streak of 4 following the return of Peyton Bruner from an injury in December.

Bruner led the Cavemen with 25 points Tuesday night with teammate Jordan Rossetta adding 19. The top three teams in conference qualify for the playoffs plus the top 32 teams fill in the brackets. GP is 32nd. The Cavemen next host the league leading Sheldon Irish this Friday night in the final regular season home game. The Cavemen finish the season on the road with contests at North Medford and then Willamette. All will be broadcast on KAJO radio.

The 8th Lady Cavers did not fare as well losing by 30 to the 2nd ranked South Panthers 64 to 34. Both the Cavers and Panthers are expected to land in the playoffs.

Basketball Double Header Tuesday Night at Heater-Newman with Playoff Implications
Grants Pass Basketball fans are in for a treat Tuesday night with a 6A double header in Heater-Newman gym. The Lady Cavers lead the way, tipping off at 5:30 against the South Medford Panthers. The Cavers are 2nd in the Southwest Conference with at 6 and 2 record while the Panthers are 3rd sporting a 5 and 1 tally. It’s likely both teams will make the playoffs with both currently ranked in the top 10 statewide, but this game will help determine post season seedings.

Then at the 7:00 the Cavemen tip off against the Panthers boys’ team in a battle for 3rd place in conference, currently held by the Panthers with a 4 and 3 record.
The Cavemen are 4th with a 4 and 4 record so Tuesday’s winner will be in third place with three games to play. The top three conference teams qualify for the post season. The Cavemen game will be broadcast on live KAJO with the pregame set for 20 minutes prior to tipoff.

Other SWC action Tuesday night includes both boys and girls of Willamette playing at South Eugene with the Roseburg boys are at North Medford while the girls play in opposite venues.

GP Boys & Girls Outscore Roseburg, Face South Eugene Today
Grants Pass beat Roseburg 68 to 36 at Heater-Newman yesterday. Payton Bruner led the Cavemen with 27 points, and Jordan Rosetta added 17 points in the win. Grants Pass improves to 7 and 12 overall, and 3 and 4 in Southwest Conference play. Today the Cavemen travel north to face the South Eugene Axe who are fourth in conference, a half game ahead of GP. The game will be broadcast live on KAJO with the tip off at 6:45. The pregame will air about twenty minutes prior to tip off.

In other Southwest Conference Action Willamette is at Roseburg and South Medford is at Sheldon.

Other local schools in action for both boys and girls, includes Rogue River hosting Brookings-Harbor and Glendale at Yoncalla.

The Lady Cavers won at Roseburg 66 to 28. The number 8 Lady Cavers improved to 14 and 4 on the season. The Lady Cavers are hosting South Eugene with a tip off at 6:45 p.m.
